2022 School Supply Project

When schools reopen this August, we want our children to be ready!

We would like to provide filled backpacks for our newest residents (2019-2022) who arrived in San Antonio through local resettlement programs.

We invite you to donate school supplies and backpacks to achieve the goal of 750 backpacks for pre-K through grade 12Volunteers are also invited to pack and/or distribute.

Go to our school supply 2022 project page for more info.

Center for Refugee Services is actively engaged in helping new Afghan families that are coming to San Antonio from Afghanistan. We are committed to providing our new neighbors with new bedding and hygiene items and school supplies. If you want to help us with this effort please make a donation today so that we can purchase the items that families need.

Do not bring donations of bedding or other items to our center as we do not have storage space. For updates on the latest news coming out of Afghanistan see US Department of State website

Warning:  As much as we would love to be in the situation to hire staff members to increase our service capabilities, we have not published any employment information.   Please consider all emails offering employment to be scams.     We sincerely regret this.

US Dept of State Report to Congress

Located in the heart of the refugee community:

CRS has 5 core staff members, of which only 2 are funded, with 30 auxiliary volunteers (including multilingual refugees and public health/mental health graduate students).

In 2018 CRS obtained first-time grant/donation to fund two salaried full-time program managers, which has continued, providing for greater service efficiency and a seamless continuum of client care.

Why is the Center for Refugee Services Important?

The Center for Refugee Services assists more than 1,000 clients a year.  They are legally resettled refugees who have come from more than 20 countries torn by violence, war, and human rights abuses to make their home in San Antonio.

Countries of origin include:

  • Myanmar (Burma)
  • Democratic Republic of Congo
  • Eritrea
  • Sudan
  • Iraq
  • Iran
  • Afghanistan
  • Central African Republic, etc.

Since 2010, more than 10,000 individuals have resettled in San Antonio as permanent residents; after five years, most apply for U.S. citizenship.

CRS is the only independent nonprofit agency that works exclusively to promote the successful community integration of legally resettled refugees.

Can you help by donating to support our work in the community?
